Well, went and did my last spring series race. Today's race was the Bradner course. It is selective. It has tons of hard rollers. It is constantly up and down. I have been suffering with a slight head cold so I was not sure of how I would do. Right when I got on my bike I knew that I would have some legs.
We basically rolled out with about 80-100 guys. Nice weather, 10 degrees overcast. The race was pretty standard for the first few laps. The first real selection was when we caught the A race. I guess they were riding "piano", so we caught them with at about 2 laps in. When we went by it was a bit of a cluster, I was mid towards the back of the group. Well 150 riders trying to ride on one side of the road made it hectic. They are supposed to neutralize and they did, but it was wierd. I was not dying to muscle one of these guys to get by faster. So I notice that our group has split and half the group is by the A group and starting to role it. I had to just about die to get across to the main group. It hurt but I was still withing myself, so that is a good thing. Eventually the bergs " Alex Berg" ( does anyone get these references? Millertime does, he loved the Jackie Childs " balm " shtick.
Anyway, back to the bergs. Guys were getting popped 2-3 at a time per lap. Next thing you know it is the last lap and there is about 40 guys, from the original 80-100 that started. I had some moments where I had to jump across because somoene folded their tent and left me hanging, but always within myself. Coming to 2 to go I moved up a bit because it looked like it would be a bunch kick. On the last lap a 3 man break went up the road. It was dangling pretty good. I thought about joining, but I thought it was coming back. Well we hit the last long hill to the finish and we caught the break and they were going about 6 km slower. We almost plowed right into them. This broke up the sprint, which is too bad because on a hill like that it is a lottery. I rode well. Really happy with how it went. Given my work to this point my form is getting there. Hopefully after Cali I can get a bit more base down and then hit a few more races. Just shows, if you go and do it good things will happen.
At the end of my drive home I could feel my calf cramping. It went away. Well when I got out of the car, my inner thigh cramped and on my right legs, so I sat down in my car seat. It did not go away, so I got up, then my left tigh cramped, so now I have the double cramp going. I couldn't walk and thought I was dying. I fell onto the grass and got out my cell phone to tell the Croatian to come help me, but she was downstairs without the phone. I could not get up and was screaming. Finally I got up, after about 5 minutes.
After, the race, I mowed the lawn, cleaned my bike, vacumed both cars, cleaned the inside, Fixed the trunk on the Cavalier', trimmed the hedges, had dinner ( chili on rice, thanks Mrs Spacemanrides )then redid the bar tape on my bike and got some clothes ready for the trip. That is a big day. The Fashionista helped clean the bike. She like to get right in there. dunking her hands in the pail, slathering soapy water all over it. She was soaking wet 5 mintes into the process.
I hurt like crazy, but let me tell you if you want to feel young, go bang bars with kids half your age. Go suffer with people who could technically be your kids and you will feel young. Only 3 dicks who drive duallies tried to mow us down.
10:00 pm, have to go to bed.
Almost forgot, Canucks pimp slapped the Wings! Ha!

Saturday and Coffee
Just sitting here with the family, having some coffee. In 4 days I will be in Palm Springs! I think it is going to cool off when we arrive from 37 to 26 C, not sure how I am going to survive that. We went out for dinner for the Croatians B-day, it was nice.
Willow emailed me yesterday saying that she read the blog and that she did indeed do sports growing up. Cheerleading may technically be a sport.....
She also told me that she is getting geared up to run Boston and that the other girls that are going are going to do it for the experience? I agree with her on this, what the hell is the EXPERIENCE? It is a running race, you go and give it your best. That does not mean that you trample people to do well, there has to be respect, but you have to go out and do your best. Apparently these women want to run together, Willow plans on going into the suit case of courage and tearing some legs off! Good for her! It is the Boston Marathon, not the 5k run for the cure.
The Fashionista is wearing her bib like a cape, sort of like of like Uncle Leo.....
Looks like I will try to hit the road race tomorrow. It is about 50/50 at this point.

The 40 Year Old Virgin
Hey! It was Mr Convincings 40th yesterday! Happy Birthday bigman. It is also AHHHZINGA's B- day right around now too. So a shout out to him as well.
I wonder now that Convincing is 40 if he will retire some of those Levi 501's he has been holding onto. He likes to run all of his stuff right to failure, so you never know. Been riding a bit, but looks like another monsoon may be on it's way, so good chance I am done riding until SoCal on Wednesday. I can't wait to get on vacation.
In my mind, I am already there....
Also, it is the Croatian B-day on Friday. I guess I will have to bust out my best moves for Friday night. I may bust out the swirl.

Penants
Was I doing some penants today. I should start by saying that we have monsoon conditions here. Wow, I can't remember the last time it rained this hard. I was not sure that I should go today. If I didn't go race I knew I would do nothing at all. I stayed home all day saturday and cleaned the house while the Croatian went and got all the shopping done, because as you all know we need stuff from the mall.....
Anyway, drove to Fort Langley for the hardest race course of the spring series. It has around a 3 km climb and we did 11 eleven laps. Eleven times up this thing in the driving rain! Great!!!
Uh, not. Anyways, we got rolling and it was "a bloc'" from the start. We hit the long downhill in torrential conditions at about 60km an hour. It was a little nerve wracking. We rode the bottom flat part of the course pretty mellow ( that lasted 8 minutes ) and then it was up Armstrong. Holy crap, it was fast. I am not sure I was ready for that. I was on the rivet. I could hear myself breathing like crazy. The group splintered like crazy. Although it did come back together with the exception of 8-9 guys. This repeated itself for about 6 laps when I was uncermonously dropped. First it is 2 feet, the 4 feet, then 8 feet, 16 feet and that is it. From there I rode solo for a lap in no mans land and then the gruppetto picked me up. Rode in a group of about 12 for the most of the race. The climb was really hard. I was pretty disappointed to be dispatched, but I haven't done a lot of intensity this year....make that none, so it was a pretty good effort. This where penants come into it. If you don't do some work you don't get some result. I never planned on being in great shape at this time of the year, but I didn't need to sit around and do nothing for nearly 2 months after cyclocross ended. I did manage to do pretty well with my diet in that time. I layed off the beer which will pretty much sink ya. Other than that I did nothing.
It was warm out, but I still opted for the heat balm " balm who gave you balm? I never told you to put on any balm?" The Maistro gave me the balm! " the Maistro gave me the balm, who is the Maistro" I digress. The balm does work well to help keep you warm when you are soaking wet. The age old rain cape works better than you would think for PVC.
I called convincing tonight. I had some engineering questions for him. I think he get tired of my engineering questions, but he still answers them with gusto. Also, I like the fact that he is amazed that planes fly. He know the physics and he is still amazed. Run it through your brain, it boggles this bloggers mind. Anway, he was riding in the city of Millionaires and came across the A brothers and the Gooner. Convincing said that the Gooner layed the wood to him in the cross winds.
The Croatian is talking about how she needs to buy some bra's? I always wonder how that involves me? I am always gunning for the push up variety!
The Fashionista did not nap today, what a treat she was at about 6 pm. Noting like ME having to be the one to moderate the diputes.
gotta go.

Africa
Watching AI right now. The girl from Minni just got bounced, wrong. They are showing Seacrest and Simon going to Africa. Every time I see things from Dafur, SA, etc you feel like a complete selfish fool. Sitting around watching our big screen TVs, eating whatever we want. They also showed stuff from Louisiana and that is really SAD. I cannot believe that they can't get this figured out? It is right there. Then again this is nation that can't catch a guy that is 6'11, travels with a dialysis machine, and lives in caves. I guess my expectaitons should not be too high....
Damn, the Croatian just told me a story about a boy that lost all of his toys, and everything else in Katrina. His Mom started buying him new toys once they got back on their feet, and he kept them in a kids suitcase on wheels so that he would not ever lose them again. He went to grade 1 with all his toys in his suitcase. I would be like that, if someone took my bikes. When I got new one's I would ride them....all at once!
On a lighter note check out this add we saw on craiglist
Got Big Jugs or Milk?
I am seeking a lactating woman who enjoys having her breasts sucked. You may be just leaking occasionally or full of warm, sweet and tasty milk. I'd love to latch on and take a load off your breasts. All the better if you can squirt your milky liquid over my face and rock hard $%^&. I will consider non-lactating ladies as long as you have big breasts and you're into role playing. If want to help me with my fetish for compensation, reply soon.
Maybe Braden or Jonah Mom's would like to respond to this! You can pick up a few extra bucks !
The Indian kid got through over the guy that looks like Uncle Cracker. Another rip off.
Well, not much else going on. The Fashionista got a time out and while standing in the corner she took a dump, that kid drops a bomb every time she wants out of things.
Another good story that the Croatian reminded me of. She took Mia-bobia to lunch about a year ago when never calls was here on business. Anyway, on the walk to lunch, Bobia is holding the Croatians hand and she tells the Croatian that she should walk closer to traffic, because she is bigger and if a car hits her she can absorb it, where as she is just little.
8 minutes to keep you in the loop.
PS my brother could do a wheelie longer than anyone I know on a 10 speed. He could easily go all around the block. He held the local record, but can't remember how long that was. It was long though. He could teach some of the idiots in Cat 3 how to take off your jacket when you are riding, or how to hop a curb.......

In 10 minutes or less....
What Cracking?
I am going to have to fire these things off pretty quick!
My legs are still sore from Sundays affair. I went out this morning to ride and did not bother to check the temp. Went out in thermal tights ( shorts underneath ), thermal short sleeve top, thermal jersey, jacket, booties...it was 12 degrees at 7:30 am. Needless to say I was way over dressed. The way home was worse, it was about 16 degrees and I had way too much stuff to try to carry and no backpack today. I am pretty sure all of that stuff can be done with now.
Talked to Millertime today. I had not heard from him in a while so I gave him a call. He sounded good. It had been so long I had thought that he had left his job, or even worse, but he was okay.
Also, I talked to the Gooner today. He is good as well. Him and Jellykelly are getting things ready for the big wedding. Oh, almost forgot, Millertime thought that I was referring to he when I was referring to the Fashionista. He is a fashionista too.....well kinda.....
Never Calls still never calls, man she is consistent.
our calls end up at the back of the boat. Having said that poor Mondo gets no ring back at all. Mondo is okay with it, Convincing makes up for it with all the extra love he gives him. I will never forget the time we were in SoCal and Mondo took NC for a drive....alone? Me the Coratian, and Convincing were left scratching our heads. Actually, with 3. kids....make that 4, convincing can be a lot work, she has some pretty full days. I think the J-man keeps her bouncing pretty good these days
Anywaaaays, this has officially become the home of the Anna Nicole Smith Drama. The Croatian just can't stay away from it. Having said that, it is the only thing that CNN covers.
The Croatian is watching that damn Gilmore girls. It is the only show that she watches consistently, so I have to give in. It would be a lot better if some of those women would just get naked, or at least start kissing one another. Same goes for Desperate Housewives. If they are so desperate, lets get some tickle fights going.
Hey big props to Rawlie and Willow. Rawlie ran a sub 3 hour marathon and Willow banged out a 3:45 ( I believe ) and both qualified for Boston. Rawlie can run, no 2 ways around that, but he did after being sick with the flu and was barfing the night before. I think he is faster than that healthy Willow, what can I say. Never did a lot of sports growing up, but obviously has a bit of gift in there somewhere, because a 3:45 is damn impressive.
Okay, just going to see the Canucks finish off TB.
Oh one last thing, the Asian Sensation proposed. good work buddy. It only took you a year since you bought the ring.

Slooo
I have to get a bike with fenders and gears. I was hurting on the singlespeed to work. Took the short way to work and that even seemed a bit too hard.
I forgot to mention that on Friday night we all went to the Fashionista's godparents for dinner. I drank about a bottle of wine, plus 2 beers. That hurt more than the race on the Sunday. Sweet Lou just keeps pouring and I just keep drinking and then the next thing you know it is 10:00pm, I am cut, and talking about whether it is contact or movement that is the sign.......I think I also made reference to someone being in dry dock for a while as they had not had a date in about 3 years. went over big. Mostly we just laugh at me not with me when we get in these situations, that is the beauty fo being from the Peg, you can never get to high on yourself or be too cool, because at the end of the day you are still from Winnipeg! Go Jets!

Faking it!
Kraemer: I fake it sometimes...
Jerry: You fake it?
Kraemer: I fake it! You know sometimes enough is enough!
Well for the hell of it I deceided to go out and do the first spring series race of the year. I was faking it! Man, was I faking it. First of all I rarely start racing at all this early, second I have not once cracked open the motor on a ride. I have been riding a single speed road bike and those things do not allow you to go out and open it out, you are grinding or spinning. I deceided that I like to race and it was going to be a dry day. I headed out to Fort Langley to the race. Fort Langley might as well be Kansas as far as I am concerned. I hae no idea where I am anything east of south east of Richmond. No clue. They talk about all of these bridges in the traffic reports, and I hae no clue what any of them are. I get there and I deceide that it is cold and will actually have to wear a jacket and tights. It is another climate zone out in the burbs. I am racing B, there is A-D, and I would get killed in A the minute one of the symetrics guys deceided to light it up. We roll off and I know that I will be riding as "piano" as I can given my lack of fitness. I am going to try to stick near the front. For the most part this is a success. I ride in the top half of the race and I keep my nose out of the wind. That in itself is hard work. coming out of the corners I try to make sure that I hae a good wheel to follow so they do the surge/pull in the wind. 35 minutes in I get a nail through my back tire. Not only a flat but a torn sidewall. Phuck! I ride back to the start finish and I manage to negotiate a wheel from a guy. I am allowed to reenter the race but I cannot be a factor in the race, well given my suberb form that should nto be a problem. I am told that I basically have to ride in the bottom 10-15 riders of the 75 person group. That sucks, but I am game given that there are 9 to go and I have only missed one lap I m game. Let me tell you about the back of the pack. Shrapnel everywhere. It is pretty chaotic. I had no intentions of having to open up the suitcase of courage, but had to about 5 times because I would be on a wheel and the guy in front of me would just POP! I would have to fill it in my self. With one or two to go someone just sat up and then the group surged as there was 4 off the front and they were trying to bring it back. I can honestly say that I saw Jesus getting back on. Spots and dots in front of me. I was dying. From there I was just battling to recover. Wow,that was something. Coming into the last 500 meters I just rolled it in Lantre Rouge ( sp)
It was good, my back was sore though.
Big thanks to the Croation and the fashionista for letting me head out. THe Croation is great to me. I take care of the fashionista until leave time and then I take back over after. Both my ladies gave mebig kisses good bye and good lucks to the Papa. I am lucky! The Croation even made me salmon on rice with Veggies for dinner. I live pretty large. I bring my bike on vacations, get up at 6 am and ride. She is a strong women. Love her to death. she knows that I can't not ride or I become a nut job. Even if it is only to and from work.
I haven't heard from millertime for a while, must be busy hiding money for his company....or he is pissed that the Habs won't make the playoffs and did not go out and get a goalie. Hey! At least Sourey answered the bell my friend when he had to. Mr convincing is a bit low these days, given the fact that his mother lost her long and hard fought battle to cancer. She was a fighter. He is also blue about the fact that Bert is now on the wings.
Okay this is terrible to say but we screwed up our power cord on our lap top so I am on critical battery power. Oh and talked to G the other day, he is still the man!
